I'm a Big Kid Now!

And they say a Drama major will get you nowhere...

I started work today! After multiple delays on the project, it is up and running, and I'm now officially a member of the film industry (or at least that's what I'm saying). The shoot's pretty short, but a few weeks in Wilmington with free room and board and the chance to say "I'm the assistant costumer on a film" is as worthy payoff for 6 day weeks of 10-12 hour days. Mom told me to take a "first day of work" picture - she always made me take them for school, even through being homeschooled and college!

The film, In The Absence of Good Men, is about Jesse and Frank James, along with some of their crew, and is set in 1864. The cast has only 3 females - quite the change from Carolina! I don't think I can tell who is in it right now, and there's certainly no one of, say, Sean Connery caliber, but there is one person who'll make you say "Haha, that's cool!" That's what I said, at least.

Today we ran around to a few stores and over to Screen Gems studios, did some fittings, realized we need a ton more stuff. Right now the casting office is sharing a space with us, so it was cool to get a feel for how they work, too. Generally, what we're doing isn't particularly hard or different than previous work, but since it's my first film, I'm sure I'm gonna do 1,000 idiot things. For example, I totally put the buggy in one of those buggy return things at Walmart with the designer's crucial notebook of info on everything still in it, then plopped myself in the car where she was waiting. An hour or so later, I thought I lost my pocketbook at the place we stopped for lunch (a really good, Pepper's-esque spot called Elizabeth's or something like that). Brilliant, Tiffany, way to show you've got it together. Oh well, set the bar low, right? Then you can delight her with minimal competence later.

Well, I suppose I am undeniably an adult today. I filled out W-9 forms, signed contracts, drank coffee (ok, sorta...), even got an email on my non student email from an actor calling me "Miss" and by my last name. Yep, I'm all grown up on the outside. But just between you and me - my underwear was still by Sesame Street. ; )
